If you purchased a 2-5 year Extended Maintenance Option (EMO) from IBM Direct and want to apply the unused portion applied to a new server without penalty for early cancellation, here's what you need to do:

• Request from us - your IBM Business Partner - a cancellation letter form.
• Fill out the form and send it to IBM to notify them of your request to terminate the maintenance on your current server.
• Specifically, you will let them know the date your new IBM server is installed and the date you want your current server "out of production." IBM will terminate the maintenance no earlier than 30 days after the date of receipt of notification.
• It may take IBM as much as 6-8 weeks to completely process the request and check their records to make certain there are no outstanding claims against your specific EMO contract. Upon completion of that research, IBM will issue a credit for the unused portion of the EMO.

How much can you expect?

There is no exact answer before you make the request. At best, we believe you can expect to be charged for the prorated portion of the EMO term already used (by the time IBM has received your notice, plus 30 days), and you will get about 80% of the unused portion in about 6-8 weeks.

One further note. If you take your older server out of production and later use it use in your business and want to reinstate maintenance, IBM will charge you a penalty for early cancellation.
